Injured Bolt misses rest of 2010
By www.caribbeannetnews.com - Tuesday 10th
August 2010
|
|
|
Olympic and world sprint champion Usain Bolt has ruled
out competing for the rest of 2010 with a back injury.
The Jamaican suffered only his second professional 100m
defeat on Friday when he was easily beaten by Tyson Gay
at Stockholm's Diamond League meeting. Manager Ricky
Simms said Bolt had been examined by a doctor in Germany
and the back problem "restricts his ability to generate
power in his stride". Bolt will miss the remaining
Diamond League meets in Zurich and Brussels. The world
record holder in the 100m and 200m, along with American
Gay and Asafa Powell - the three world's fastest 100m
runners in history - had been scheduled to face each
other at the year's final Diamond League meet in
Brussels on 27 August.

Bottles thrown at Australia stars
By www.caribbeannetnews.com - Tuesday 7th April 2010
|
|
|
Australia have confirmed
plastic bottles were thrown at their players after the
23-run Twenty20 defeat by Pakistan at Edgbaston on
Monday. The incident occurred as about 13,000 Pakistan
fans celebrated the victory which ended a 12-match
losing streak against Australia in all cricket. "Yes
some plastic bottles were thrown and yes one nearly hit
a player," said a Cricket Australia spokesman. "But we
have every confidence in the security for Tuesday's
match." The sides meet again at 5 o’clock at the
Birmingham Test venue and the England and Wales Cricket
Board, which is in charge of security, said changes
would be made to the on-field post-match interviews.
They had to be moved 30 metres inside the boundary rope
after the incident.

ICC content with Sir Vivian Richards Stadium
By www.caribbeannetnews.com - Thursday 29th
April 2010
|
|
|
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has informed the
West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) that the Sir Vivian
Richards Stadium in Antigua may now be used for
international cricket after it has passed an inspection
by the ICC. In February 2009 the ground was the scene of
a Test match between the West Indies and England that
lasted just 10 balls before being abandoned because of
an outfield that was described in the ICC’s report as
unfit. The ICC told the WICB that the ground could not
be used for international cricket for a period of 12
months and also gave the board an official warning for
not preparing the ground effectively for the match. As
per ICC instructions, over the past year, appropriate
work was carried out and monitored by the WICB and an
inspection of the ground was carried out by Jeff Crowe
of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees.

England's Stuart Broad fined for throwing incident
By:
bbcaribbean.com- Monday August 9th 2010 |
| |
|
Stuart Broad has been fined 50% of his match fee for
throwing the ball at Pakistan batsman Zulqarnain Haider
during the second Test at Edgbaston. England
seamer Broad hit Haider on the shoulder as England
struggled for wickets during the third day. Haider had
earlier survived a concerted caught-behind appeal by
Broad and went on to hit 88 in Pakistan's 291-9. The
24-year-old Broad had pleaded guilty to a charge of
"throwing the ball inappropriately". Broad's guilty plea
meant there was no need for Sri Lankan match referee
Ranjan Madugalle to hold a full hearing after stumps on
Sunday. "The actions of Stuart Broad were unacceptable,"
Madugalle said in an International Cricket Council
statement issued on Monday.

Defender Wes Brown ends England career
By:
bbcaribbean.com- Monday August 9th 2010 |
|
|
|
Manchester United defender Wes Brown has announced his
retirement from international duty with England. The 30-year-old's announcement follows a similar one by Blackburn
goalkeeper Paul Robinson earlier on Sunday. Both were
selected in the England squad to face Hungary on
Wednesday, having missed out on this summer's World Cup.
But the Football Association confirmed Brown visited
England's team hotel in Watford on Sunday evening to
inform manager Fabio Capello of his decision. In a
statement, Brown said: "After a lot of thought and with
a very heavy heart, I have decided the time is right for
me to retire from international football."At the age of
30, I feel it is right for me to stand aside and let
younger players come through, which allows me to
concentrate on my club career.”

The South African

Federations (IAAF) demanding she take gender tests. She
returned to action in Finland last month, winning two
races, and will race at the Isaf meeting on 22 August.
Semenya will use the race as part of her build-up to the
